The Fridley station will be ready when Northstar service starts late in 2009. Northstar has received a $9.9 million grant from the Counties Transit Improvement Board to build the station.

The station was included in Northstar’s original plans, but had been deferred because of cost considerations. The recent grant, combined with investments from the Anoka County Regional Rail Authority and the City of Fridley, completes the funding needed. The grant was made possible by the new ¼-percent metro sales tax.

The construction bidding process for the station will begin in December 2008, with construction expected to start in late winter or early spring 2009.

Construction of a pedestrian tunnel under the BNSF train tracks and acquisition of land for the park-and-ride lots have been completed.
