Next steps to extend commuter rail service

While the state of Minnesota and metro area counties have significantly increased available funding for transit and transportation improvements, competition for this funding is fierce among communities who want their transit or transportation project to be the next considered. For any of these Northstar service expansions to become a reality, multiple steps must be taken.

NCDA or the proposing agencies would need to secure funding for:

Preliminary engineering and environmental reviews
Negotiations with BNSF Railway for the use of its train tracks
Property appraisals and acquisition
Construction
